First-ever Veterans’ Event is a huge success.
An event for veterans at Yaxley was so successful that it may be rolled out at other Lakeside practices.
The session promoted the help that veterans and their families can get from Armed Forces charities, local support services and South Peterborough Primary Care Network’s Personalised Care Team. The event was organised by social prescriber Carole Gill, supported by Dawn Farey, the Personalised Care Team Lead.
Dawn said: ‘It was a great success as around 30 people attended the drop-in session and we got such positive feedback from everyone, veterans and organisations alike. They were really impressed that as a practice we had reached out to our veterans to offer support and guidance. Carole is our Veterans’ Champion and she put information packs together for each of our patients. It was lovely to see the patients talking to each other as well and it was all about bringing together people who can support each other.’
Afterwards Martin Bell, from the Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire branch of SSAFA, (the Soldiers Sailors and Airmen’s Families Association), said: ‘Thank you for organising such a successful event. We found it very useful to meet so many veterans, and we do follow up on the conversations we had with them.’
If you are a current or veteran member of the Armed Forces and didn’t receive an invite, then please let us know so we can update our records and inform you of any future events.
