Focus on Yaxley’s Clinical Administration Team

The Yaxley administrative team work closely together to ensure that all correspondence and tasks are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Some members have been here for more than 15 years while the newest has been here less than a year and is new to an administrative role.   

They share the hundreds of tasks that come in every day, including GP correspondence, processing letters from hospitals and consultants, referrals plus insurance and solicitors’ reports.    

The team is headed up by Gemma Whittaker, who has been at the surgery for nearly five years within the Clinical Administration Team.    

 

She said: ‘It is very busy and so we do have to prioritise tasks. We now send the majority of messages out electronically which makes the most of our resources and also means that patients can be kept informed of things really quickly. I moved here from a hospital admin role and I prefer it as you have more interaction with the same patients and the team here is very well supported by the GPs and practice management.’   

The newest member of the team is Sarah Bovington who joined nine months ago after a career in digital publishing. She said: ‘I wanted to do something completely different and it is so much more than an administrative role as I have learned and it is a really good team to work in.’   

Kelly Grayson was previously an assistant manager in a care home and always wanted to work in a GP surgery: ‘Everyone was so helpful and although I didn’t have a background in administration, there were other things that I could bring. I am super-happy in my job and like the fact that no two days are the same and we have a variety of tasks that we share.’   

Kayleigh McNulty is one of the longer serving members of the team, having clocked up 15 years since she joined after leaving school: ‘My sister worked in the pharmacy and I knew other people here so that is why I joined. The patient list is huge now compared to what it was and lots of patients come from other areas. I am involved in training team members when they join and while I have seen some come and go, their hearts have to be in it to do this job.’   

Jenna Cockman is the youngest member of the team and worked here for a year full-time before embarking on her degree at Anglia Ruskin. Now she is combines three days study with two days working at Yaxley plus some Saturdays. She said: ‘I love speaking to the patients and, although I mainly work in reception I also help out in the admin team as well which I enjoy.’   

The other members of the team are Wendy Izzo, who is the longest serving member of the team just completing 20 years in September, Ruth Frost, who has been at Yaxley for around 17 years, Hannah Martin who joined three years ago and Anna Andrasova who joined us from Boroughbury Surgery in 2022. Well done Team Yaxley.
